The goal: Gather the drifting clouds so the Cloudtop Isles draw close together again.
Your child’s part: Your child plans, chooses and has a go at jobs on their own, and decides when to ask for help. Each job they take on gathers a cloud, until the isles draw close and Sky can fly solo at the air show.
Independence is doing things for yourself and making choices that fit your age, from packing a bag to planning an afternoon.
Just gentle ideas to help you choose.
The story goal: Gather the drifting clouds so the Cloudtop Isles draw close together again.

Sky says: “Not yet sounds like losing. I don't want a not-yet nest.”Sky
Sky's Definitely Myself list is pinned to the peg rail. It is four pages long. Item one says Pour my own drink. Item forty-three says Fix the bridge to the far isle, by Thursday.
Yara the yak leans over the ledge and reads the whole thing without a word. Then she sets down three empty nests woven from twigs.
'Can, with help, not yet,' she says. 'Sort it. Be honest. The isles don't need you to do everything. They need you to know what you can do.'
First, a choice: 4 options
On the printed page: Sort the cards into three nests, or write each task inside a nest on the page.
By the end they have: Three task nests sorted, with a helper named on each with-help card; first tool, can, help, not yet.
You will need: The task card sheet (or paper cut into twelve cards) · Three bowls, hats or drawn circles · A pencil
Smaller step if needed: Sort only your own four cards, or sort two of Sky's and two of yours.
The grown-up’s part: Let your child put tasks in whichever nest they choose. If you disagree, ask what makes them think so, then let the card stay where they put it.
This week, ask the person on your chosen with-help card to coach you through that task once, then decide if the card can move nests.
What it practises: Practise sorting real tasks into can do alone, can do with help, and not yet, and naming who could help with each.
