The goal: Relight the lamps up Lantern Peaks so the summit beacon can guide travellers over the pass.
Your child’s part: Your child breaks a big climb into small steps, parks distractions and comes back to the task. Each stretch they finish relights the path, until the beacon shines and the villages beyond the pass can be reached before winter.
Focus and perseverance are about staying with something a little longer, noticing distractions and feeling proud of finishing a manageable challenge.
Just gentle ideas to help you choose.
The story goal: Relight the lamps up Lantern Peaks so the summit beacon can guide travellers over the pass.

Mika says: “Did you see that? It does it every single time. I look at something else and my lamp goes wobbly.”Mika
The lamplighter's hut sits where the Quiet Trail begins. Ada the old yak is waiting on the step, and she points her horn up the mountain. Halfway up, the path lamps are dim. At the very top, the summit beacon is completely dark.
"Without the beacon, the post carriers can't cross the pass at night," Ada says. "Letters, medicine, flour for the winter. All of it stops."
The story continues in the mission.
First, a choice: 4 options
On the printed page: Circle the six pulls, then write or draw a fix beside each.
By the end they have: Distraction list started.
You will need: The trail picture on the page · A pencil
Smaller step if needed: Find three of the six pulls and choose a fix for one of them.
The grown-up’s part: Let your child search without hints for at least a minute. If they ask, you can say how many are left, not where.
This week, during reading or homework, notice the first thing that pulls your eyes away and add it to your Distraction list.
What it practises: Practise noticing what pulls attention away, and thinking up a fix for each pull.
